Thomas R. Prete Memorial Scholarship for the Arts

Purpose: To perpetuate the memory of Thomas R. Prete, teacher, artist, entertainer, poet, etc. by providing an annual scholarship in the amount of $300.00 for a deserving graduating high school senior planning on attending an institution of higher education and majoring in performing, visual or graphic arts or performing, visual or graphic arts education.

Area covered: The scholarship is available to students living in or graduating from schools in the Wallingford / North Haven area. Tom Prete was an art teacher with the North Haven School system and upon retirement established a Magic Shop in Wallingford. He also helped establish the Magic Arts Assembly #127 of the Society of American Magicians, later changed to the Tom Prete Assembly.

How Selected: The selection of the scholarship recipient will by made by a Committee from the Tom Prete Assembly #127 of the Society of American Magicians. The decision of the Committee is final.

How to apply: The candidate will complete the application provided. Copies will be distributed to the high school guidance offices and through the Tom Prete Assembly #127 website (

Deadline for applications: The application must be received to the Committee Chairperson by April 30th. The selection committee will meet prior to the May Assembly meeting to review the candidates’ applications and select an appropriate recipient. The scholarship will be awarded in June at an appropriate venue.
